Getting Started

Off-Campus Mentoring Program

Under the Off-Campus Mentoring Program, experienced students (mentors) provide one-on-one support to new off-campus students (mentees) from the same faculty.  This Program provides a valuable experience for both mentees and mentors. For instance, the program can help you as a new student when you don’t know where to turn. Alternatively, as a mentor, it can help you enhance your leadership skills. Contact the Monash University Gippsland Student Union (MUGSU) for more information.

Off-Campus Students' Association

The Off Campus Students' Association (OCSA) brings together students studying off-campus. Its site includes descriptions of the services offered, including:

  • advocating for improvements to off-campus teaching delivery
  • a bulletin board
  • a wall planner
  • regular email news updates
  • other services that can help you during your time as a student

Symposia and Residential Schools

There are some off-campus subjects (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, and Social and Community Welfare) for which attendance at one or more residential schools is compulsory. Make sure that you check this requirement when you enrol. Optional weekend schools (typically comprising two hour classes) are offered in a small number of Arts subjects.

Contact the Monash University Gippsland Student Union (MUGSU) for more information about transport and accommodation at residential and weekend schools.

Monash Residential Services (MRS) assists students by providing an on-campus housing.

Finance

Monash University has a student loan fund which may be able to help you. If you are experiencing financial difficulties that could affect your ability to complete your course, you can discuss your situation with the student financial adviser and apply for a loan if appropriate. Additional information can be found at Student Financial Aid. Some assistance may also be available through the Gippsland Bookshop Grant Scheme. Contact the Gippsland Bookshop for more information.
