Study Resourcesmy.monashThe my.monash portal is your one stop, personalised web page which provides academic, administrative, research and community resources you are likely to need during your studies, as well as giving you access to your Monash email. LibraryThe Library provides links to information about the Library collections, facilities and services. You can access the catalogue and electronic resources ranging from individual articles to electronic books, journals and databases. In addition, you can visit Library branches or refer to Library services for off-campus students if you require help using any of the Library’s services or resources. Guides to referencingCorrect use of the referencing style recommended for each subject is one of the essential skills of tertiary study. Referencing styles vary according to discipline and you will find information on which style to use in your unit guide or MUSO site or in your faculty's student resources. The Library also provides a guide to citing and referencing styles recommended by Monash University faculties, schools or departments. IT Services for studentsInformation Technology Services (ITS) provides access to Monash University systems and resources. If you have problems with any of these, either contact your nearest ITS Service Desk or submit a request online. Note that some free software is available as a Monash student. Language and Learning OnlineLanguage and Learning Online offers assistance to students who wish to improve their academic performance in areas of essay, report and thesis writing; reading and notetaking; grammar; listening to lectures; giving oral presentations; and much more.
Health, Wellbeing and DevelopmentHealth, Wellbeing and Development, formerly known as Community Services, provides support and advice to students through counselling; family and childcare services; financial aid and loans; health services and religious centres; and more. Monash University psychological Counselling Services are free, professional and confidential. Counselling is provided to both students and staff and includes individual appointments or group sessions in areas such as exam skills and stress management. Additionally, an after-hours counselling services telephone number is available from 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday and from 6pm to 8.30am Saturday and Sunday. Self-help resourcesHealth, Wellbeing and Development Counselling Service Self-help Information provides excellent guidance to help resolve difficulties such as procrastination, stress with exams and motivation. There are resources for general wellbeing and developing independent learning skills, as well as for improving memory and concentration. For more information contact your faculty. Monash University Studies Online (MUSO)MUSO is an online information and learning tool which will help you during your studies. MUSO outlines the subjects (referred to as units) in which you are enrolled, and provides lecture notes which can be downloaded. It is essential that you look through your subjects' MUSO site to keep up-to-date with changes. Online discussion groups, announcements, calendar of key semester dates, and a helpdesk give you immediate solutions to questions or technical problems, as well as links to the Library and my.monash portal. Study tipsWish you had more time? Studying for that big exam? Trying to remember what you have read? The Learning Skills Unit in the Library can provide you with programs to improve the quality of your academic English and your approaches to study. The programs are free of charge. Symposia, residential and weekend schoolsThere are some off-campus subjects (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, and Social and Community Welfare) for which attendance at one or more residential schools is compulsory. Make sure that you check this requirement when you enrol. Optional weekend schools (typically comprising two hour classes) are offered in a small number of Arts subjects. Contact the Monash University Gippsland Student Union (MUGSU) for more information about transport and accommodation at residential and weekend schools. Monash Residential Services (MRS) assists students by providing an on-campus housing. Academic progress (failing a subject)Faculties have varying guidelines for students who fail to show satisfactory progress in their studies. Students may be asked to send a letter to, or appear before, an academic committee, and may seek assistance from faculty representatives. Contact your faculty for relevant information. Student rights officers may also be able to assist students with this process. Refer to MSA student rights site for more information. Submitting assignmentsThe procedure for submitting assignments will vary according to the requirements of each particular subject, although a cover sheet is always required.
